LUZCID is the collaborative musical duo of Neil Berry and Jonathan Bartz. Currently based out of New Paltz, NY, the pair, in my opinion, should be commended for their ability to blend a multitude of genres and styles, while still creating a unique and tasteful sound. Their Shot Caller LP, which was just released earlier today, is a prime example of exactly that. Consisting of 5 original tracks and 2 remixes, it is a satisfying mix of diverse trapstyle tunes, that are guaranteed to have your bass kicking, and your feet moving. We may only be 4 months into 2013, but the duo has already opened for artists such as gLAdiator, Alvin Risk, and DJ Sliink, and is scheduled to play at the Bella Terra Music Festival, Forest Fest, and the Freedom of Expression Music Festival. With that said, look for 2013 to be a huge year for LUZCID! And be sure to cop their new Shot Caller LP!

I always look forward to our monthly dose of FOOOOLS GOOOOOLD spun to perfection from mixing maestro A-Trak. As someone who really likes to sit down and listen to the “art” of DJing (at the risk of sounding slightly pretentious), there’s nothing better than being able to listen to how a 5-time DMC champion chooses to put together a set. It’s generally common that I will go through an entire hour without knowing a single song beforehand and it seems to be the case again and I don’t mind a bit. Eclectic track selection meets flawless mixing to make 60 minutes of easy listening and there’s even a world premiere of the Jack Beats remix of A-Trak’s collab with GTA called Landline!

Let me start with my personal opinion that there was almost no one better than gLAdiator when they were blasting out moombahton hits like their remix of Get Em High or Archer-sampling Danger Zone track. That said, the LA duo has shown a full blown commitment to running the damn trap and although it’s a bit hit or miss at times, this one is a surefire bulls-eye. They remix a track from the upcoming Stalley tape Savage Journey To The American Dream due out on ClubTapes which you can check here.

I’ll be perfectly clear. No one runs the trap like Flosstradamus. Everything from the matching black and white Adidas gear to their downright disgusting sourface production just oozes swagger. And I NEVER use the word swagger. They unleash almost 35 minutes of pure trap mayhem that is the culmination of all things that the scene has been building towards. The mix wavers equally between electronic music heatseekers like RL Grime, Baauer, gLAdiator and hip-hop heavyweights like Kendrick Lamar or A$AP Rocky. You should need a helmet if your gonna bang this hard.

I’ve been wrestling with the idea of whether to post this or not over the last couple days and in the name of being impulsive, I decided to go for it. This is a half hour or so mix that I put together last week under my SoundCloud name McRandy that showcases what I’ve been listening to and some of my favorite transitions between songs that I love to mess with. In the coming months, we can hopefully get mixes done by other artists instead of my Virtual DJ efforts but all in all, I’m pretty happy with this mix. For those of you who have missed the memo, the genre of trap is going absolutely nowhere. gLAdiator, my favorite gruesome twosome from the City of Angels has been blowing my mind for the last couple months with their creative and unique moombah originals and remixes, but as of late they’ve been 100% runnin the trap. This track was made in collaboration with Chromatic and has already been getting support from some of the heavyweights in the scene such as Flosstradamus. We got a new found commitment to trap here at TNJ and to prove that this genre isn’t one-dimensional, gLAdiator, our favorite gruesome twosome from the City of Angels, drops this rework of Wide Awake. (I know enough of the Katy Perry, right?) A definite curveball from the generally amp-ed up production, this is a really melodic and chilled out take on the song that already got the drum ‘n’ bass treatment from Kaskade.
