People are spending a ton of money on music festivals according to a new study.

Rick & Morty’s theme song got a METAL MAKEOVER last night after the end credits rolled, giving the legendary show yet another piece of awesomeness to fit into their show.

If you’re looking for the coolest thing you might see in music today, look no further than duo Ojivolta sharing their official remix of the track ‘Feel It Still’ by Portugal. The Man. Visually, this is an absolute trip with colors spilling and fading out of their shapes, a complete light show, and the pair taking turns switching between sample pads, MIDI drum pads, and a super cool keyboard that seems to let you slide and detune your keys after touching the pads.

Ojivolta is the electronic indie-pop duo based in LA. Musically they’re MPC indie rock — Future funk with drops. Oji, from Pennsylvania, came up on tour and as a producer on GOOD Music projects while Volta, from Puerto Rico, was in the studio shadowing The Neptunes in Miami. The project came together between NY and LA as they focused on translating their studio productions in a live setting. This pursuit pushed them to bridge the gap between instrumental performances and continuous play DJ sets. The live set features custom instruments and software devices such as their blocks box, ROLI rise keyboard and drum pads, which allow them to seamlessly improvise and collaborate with other musicians.

The Daily Jam

Today’s playlist includes something for everyone. We celebrate the return of Chiddy Bang to the release table with a new track “Same Old Thing”, produced by newfound collaborator Russ. The track brings the same playful, high level bars that we’re used to from Chiddy, reminding everyone that he’s still ready to contribute to a hip-hop scene that can use all the help it can get. Louis Futon did his part by lending a sweet chop up of Chance The Rapper’s Blessings, set to make everyone at the DJ set feel like it’s a Sunday sermon.

The dancefloor will burn for the release of a collaboration between bassline legends AC Slater and Tchami, who enlist Rome Fortune to join the track for a dance floor destroyer. Minnesota lends a perfectly new chilled original with big sweeping synths that wash over you before releasing you into atmospheric breaks.

For those looking for unabashed turnup, look no further than Boombox Cartel’s new remix of Hudson Mohawke. For those looking to turn it down a notch, check out Blanket Me by Hundred Waters, which quite literally feels like you’re being covered by a down comforter of sound during a winter blizzard.

Pierce Fulton’s perfectly chilled collaboration with Noose is an atmospheric cruise through a desert on Mars, while Galantis displays their pitch perfect pop sensibilities with the new single True Feeling off of their upcoming album.

TNJ favorite RAC teams up with MNDR for an anthem dedicated to the things that make us all unique and Adventure Club dished out a personal mashup on their SoundCloud page. Rounding out today’s playlist is Mat Zo’s deep house mix from The Mid in Chicago; any time we get a chance to experience Matan behind the decks is a gem so turn up the volume and let’s jam!

Chiddy Bang - Been A While

“It’s been while since I’ve seen ya. It’s been a while since I’ve heard from ya. It’s been a while since I’ve checked back in. And I ain’t heard a word from ya.” These opening lines from the second single “Been A While” from Chiddy Bang frontman Chidera “Chiddy” Anamege’s return to the spotlight sum up what the Philly rappers most loyal fans have felt since the Billboard topping album “Breakfast”. After a near 4 year departure from releases, the phrase of the summer is about to be #ChiddyBack! Following the strong release of the debut single “Full Speed Ahead”, the followup is a much more laid back track that puts a lightly autotuned Chiddy at his best, wrapping lyrical loops around the listener.

As one who was personally influenced heavily by their indie/electronic-licked, care free, freestyle based hip-hop music, it’s been a rough go getting back into the music after such a long absence, capped off by a removal from Timeflies’ tour shortly after bandmate and producer Xaphoon Jones’s departure in 2013. With 2 strong releases under his belt in 2017, we couldn’t be more optimistic that it really is full speed ahead for this truly independent artist.

Topping our attention this week is the latest single “Faking Love” from London based pop artist ZAE. A total newcomer to our ears, this fresh perfectly chilled production pairs like fine wine with the sultry vocals with steel drums and runny synth sweeps. This is an easy one to nod your head to and makes you want nothing more than to dig in to what’s next from the UK songwriter.

Porter Robinson & Madeon - Shelter (Robotaki Remix)

Sometimes, good things just happen to good people. After years of gaining traction with his feel good, pop soaked, dance floor friendly remixes, it felt like a win for everyone when Canadian producer Robotaki was asked to join Porter Robinson & Madeon on the North American leg of their hugely anticipated Shelter tour. After almost countless performances and afterparty sets across multiple continents, the storied project of Porter & Hugo has wrapped up with the last performance ever at this year’s Coachella and Robotaki (real name Preston Chin) has decided to commemorate the moment with a personal remix of the tours namesake track.

Robotaki: The Lab Group | Spotify | SoundCloud | Facebook | Twitter

Opening up with the iconic vocal, Robotaki takes the tempo down to an easy “lighters in the air” speed sway and uses the extra space to load the track with fidgeting jazzy synth stabs, heavenly arpeggiator flurries and fat square basses that leaves you no choice but to show your teeth and your dancing feet.

Shelter will always have a special place in my life. Above all the things I learned, it taught me to shamelessly be myself and to pursue something that truly makes me happy without hesitation. It also showed me the richness of music and beauty of friendship.

This remix of Shelter is about capturing all those emotions now that it has come to a close 8 months later.

Thank you to Porter and Hugo, the entire Shelter crew, and all of you for the amazing memories and being a part of this journey.

– Preston

After a string of successful singles, this remix puts a nice cap on what was an incredible 2 years for the Canadian producer and sets the table for what is sure to be a great finish to 2017.
