Manila Killa Robotaki Donation

Upstart downtown Binghamton venue Spotlight, event promoter ThatNewJam in partnership with the Broome County Urban League and 93.3 WJOB are donating all proceeds from their Wednesday September 6th show to the American Red Cross and Houston Food Bank to help victims of Hurricane Harvey. Toiletries, diapers, underwear and other lightly used clothes, and financial donations will also be accepted and distributed to the proper entities. There is a $5 suggested donation for entry and all customers who purchased presale tickets will be refunded their money and given the option to donate that money if they choose.

The September 6th event features electronic producer/DJs Manila Killa & Robotaki and is the opening stop on their nationwide tour promoting their collaboration “I Want You”, which has accumulated over 2 million streams. The two artists sold out back to back nights at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles in July and are going to be hitting 14 other cities across the nation through the end of October. Manila Killa comprises half of Hotel Garuda, who played Coachella Music Festival this year and Robotaki opened on a full nationwide tour for electronic music superstar Porter Robinson earlier in 2017.

The show marks the return ThatNewJam to the Binghamton market after helping sell over 1400 tickets to ForeverGlow III: FutureHype with Bro Safari at the Broome County Memorial Arena in September 2014. All supporting talent are former Binghamton University graduates who have released music through ThatNewJam’s record label Jam Family Records. ThatNewJam is the project of Binghamton University graduate Christian Randell, whose goal is to grow a thriving music scene in the Binghamton area based on unity and respect.

Ojivolta

If you’re looking for the coolest thing you might see in music today, look no further than duo Ojivolta sharing their official remix of the track ‘Feel It Still’ by Portugal. The Man. Visually, this is an absolute trip with colors spilling and fading out of their shapes, a complete light show, and the pair taking turns switching between sample pads, MIDI drum pads, and a super cool keyboard that seems to let you slide and detune your keys after touching the pads.

Ojivolta is the electronic indie-pop duo based in LA. Musically they’re MPC indie rock — Future funk with drops. Oji, from Pennsylvania, came up on tour and as a producer on GOOD Music projects while Volta, from Puerto Rico, was in the studio shadowing The Neptunes in Miami. The project came together between NY and LA as they focused on translating their studio productions in a live setting. This pursuit pushed them to bridge the gap between instrumental performances and continuous play DJ sets. The live set features custom instruments and software devices such as their blocks box, ROLI rise keyboard and drum pads, which allow them to seamlessly improvise and collaborate with other musicians.

The Blancos Fool For you Cover Art

If there was ever a WWE style walkup theme song for a group, The Blancos have released it with their new single ‘Fool For You’. Setting off the duo’s next string of releases, Fool For You is a Jimi Hendrix meets Pink Floyd facemelter of a rock song with the hip-hop vibe of a Nas track. The song has something for everyone: masterful guitar work, haunting production, Chris Stapleton level vocals, and a built-for-tough, Gotham City smokey room vibe that is unmistakably The Blancos.

The song conveys the pain of being away from love, opening “I’ve been on the road so long, singing the same old song, your face is silhouetted in my mind.” and continuously returning to the line “..but you will always be the one to me.” Stick all the way through the end for a mind-numbingly impressive breakdown & guitar solo that solidifies that these two will always have something up their sleeves to keep their listeners on their toes. Keep your eyes peeled to their various socials and profiles for the next tracks as these two start to unroll the next round of jams!

The Daily Jam

Today’s playlist includes something for everyone. We celebrate the return of Chiddy Bang to the release table with a new track “Same Old Thing”, produced by newfound collaborator Russ. The track brings the same playful, high level bars that we’re used to from Chiddy, reminding everyone that he’s still ready to contribute to a hip-hop scene that can use all the help it can get. Louis Futon did his part by lending a sweet chop up of Chance The Rapper’s Blessings, set to make everyone at the DJ set feel like it’s a Sunday sermon.

The dancefloor will burn for the release of a collaboration between bassline legends AC Slater and Tchami, who enlist Rome Fortune to join the track for a dance floor destroyer. Minnesota lends a perfectly new chilled original with big sweeping synths that wash over you before releasing you into atmospheric breaks.

For those looking for unabashed turnup, look no further than Boombox Cartel’s new remix of Hudson Mohawke. For those looking to turn it down a notch, check out Blanket Me by Hundred Waters, which quite literally feels like you’re being covered by a down comforter of sound during a winter blizzard.
